Vysehrad is considered to be the mythical birthplace of Praque - according to legend the wise chief Krok build a castle here in the 7th century and his wisest daughter Libuse predicted that a grand city would rise here. She took a man named Premysl as her husband and king and by that she founded the city of Praque and the Premysl dynasty.
Vysehrad was our first stop in Praque - mostly because I wanted to see Smetana's tomb. We did not see that however because the cemetrery was closed... But it didn't matter too much because the area was lovely to walk around in.
Not much remain of the castle but it is a beautiful castle and park area with a very beautiful basilica and in the garden by that, 4 statues stand made by Josef Myslbek, based on Czech legends. Among others you can se Libuse and Premysl here, of course.
Through the gate you could see into the cemetery, which look very exciting and which is a sort of memorial cemetery for famous czech culture personalities like Smetana and Dvorak - at the same time there's a memorial for about 50 famous czechs, among these the painter Alfons Mucha and the earlier mentioned Josef Myslbek.
The sun was shining so beautiful and it was amazing to walk around and enjoy the weather, the view and the beautiful church.

århundrede, og hans klogeste datter Libuse forudså, at en stor by ville opstå her.
